Announcing the launch of
The Year of
Awakening
On the
60th Anniversary of the Bombings of
HIROSHIMA &
NAGASAKI
August 6 & 9, 2005
In Japanese
culture, the 60th birthday represents the beginning of a new cycle. We have an
opportunity and responsibility to transform the forces provoking global
proliferation of nuclear weapons and nuclear terrorism into enlightened forces
of political healing through tension reduction, conflict transformation, and
addressing root causes. A quantum shift in personal, social and global
consciousness is possible and essential to turn the tides.
With the failure of the 2005 Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty Review Conference,
we witness ineffective, unimaginative, and superficial approaches to conflict,
which escalate global tensions. Reacting out of emotions and false beliefs
produces fear, envy, and humiliation, fueling the spiral of violence.
Asymmetrical power provokes asymmetrical responses, including nuclear
proliferation and terrorism.
Edmund Burke said, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good
men to do nothing." You are needed. This is not about right and left;
it is about life and death. Inform yourself. Talk to people. Find your
specific contribution. It is time to awaken to your responsibility in the
global shift. We owe it to future generations.
We have a choice before us – either a nuclear chain reaction or a human chain
reaction.
